The Berkeley College men's basketball team continued its historic run of victories on Wednesday evening, turning back the Lions of The King's College (NY) in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest by a score of 93-58. With the win, the Knights are now 21-0 on the year, including a mark of 6-0 in conference action, and have won a whopping 45 consecutive contests as a program. The Lions dipped to 2-11 with the defeat, and 1-6 in conference play.
Leading the way for Berkeley College in its victory was Paul Johnson, as the freshman guard connected on three shots from beyond-the-arc to finish with a team-high 15 points. He also grabbed three rebounds, recording three steals, and tallied two assists. Emmanuel Osama converted on six of seven attempts from the charity stripe en route to finalizing his night with 12 points. He also grabbed seven rebounds, tallied three assists, and collected three steals.
Standout Stephon Jennings dropped-in 11 points in the Knights' latest triumph. He also grabbed eight rebounds, including five on the offensive glass. Newcomer Ricardo Ayuso added 11 points and three rebounds, and Dondre Simmons put together a versatile performance, contributing nine points, five rebounds, and four assists.
The Knights led by 14 points – 44-30 – as the teams went into the locker room at halftime. In the second session, Berkeley College gradually built its lead, going up by as many as 38 points before eventually winning the contest by 35.
Berkeley College connected on 42.9 percent of its attempts from the floor, as the Knights connected on 38 of their 84 attempts overall. The Lions nailed 32.8 percent of their shots (21-64). Berkeley out-rebounded The King's College (NY) by a slim margin – 51-45. The Knights recorded 16 assists to the opposition's 10, and Berkeley forced 29 Lions turnovers while committing only 14 of their own.
Despite the loss, sharpshooter James Brooks scored a game-high 21 points to go along with five rebounds. Justin Cox connected on nine of his 17 attempts from the floor to finish with 20 points (he also snatched five rebounds), and Trivette Knowles posted a double-double with 10 points 12 rebounds, five assists, four steals, and a pair of blocks.
The Knights will next face SUNY-ESF in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Saturday at the Borough of Manhattan Community College. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 5:30pm.
