Following Berkeley's thrilling 3-0 week, standouts Tristan Polnitz and Daquan Jackson get honored by Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference

The Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners for the period of Monday, January 27 through Sunday, February 2, and Berkeley College's men's basketball team swept the award receptions. Tristan Polnitz was tabbed as the conference's Player of the Week, while Daquan Jackson earned HVIAC Rookie of the Year honors.

Berkeley College continued to turn around its season with three victories last week against stiff competition. The Knights outlasted USCAA Division I power Washington Adventist by a score of 106-98 in overtime back on Wednesday, January 29 at the Borough of Manhattan Community College. Then, this past weekend, Berkeley defeated National rival Villa Maria, 68-66 thanks to a buzzer-beating shot by Turray Bynum (Saturday), before turning back HVIAC foe SUNY-ESF, 88-77 on Sunday.

Polnitz earned the top HVIAC honor by averaging 13.7 points on red-hot 66.7 percent shooting with 6.7 boards, 2.3 assists, and 2.3 steals. He registered 19 points and added four steals against Washington Adventist and produced a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double against the Mighty Oaks four days later.

Jackson, who collects his fourth Rookie of the Week award of the season, carried the Knights to a tough win over Washington Adventist with 24 points (10-17 FG), nine boards, five assists, and three steals. He also posted 10 points (5-8 FG) and five caroms in an HVIAC win over SUNY-ESF this past Sunday.

The Knights will return to the court Wednesday, as Berkeley College will take on Five Towns College in a game that will determine which institution earns the No. 1 seed in the upcoming HVIAC Men's Basketball Tournament. The contest takes place in Dix Hills, NY, with a start-time of 7:30pm.
