On Wednesday, October 4, 2017, the Berkeley College Department of Athletics promoted Jonathan Pena to the position of Head Coach.  

In Pena's first season at the helm for the Knights, he led Berkeley College to a 28-1 record, as well as the program's 10th Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship, and the team's fourth consecutive United States Collegiate Athletic Association crown. He also paced Berkeley College to 25 consecutive victories to close the 2017-2018 campaign – a winning streak that serves as the second-longest in the history of the program. Under his tutelage that year, Berkeley earned three HVIAC All-Conference distinctions, a USCAA Player of the Year Award, a National First-Team All-American distinction, and a USCAA Second-Team selection.

During the 2018-2019 season, Pena led Berkeley College to its fifth consecutive HVIAC crown, and the Knights qualified for their ninth consecutive USCAA Tournament appearance. In addition, Pena guided Berkeley to its fifth straight 20-win season. He produced a USCAA National Player of the Year and a USCAA Honorable Mention All-American, and three student-athletes were also tabbed to the HVIAC All-Conference team.

Jonathan Pena played three seasons for the Knights from 2006 through 2009, helping Berkeley College win three Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles during that time. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament during his senior season of 2008-2009. Following his playing career, Pena immediately transitioned to the coaching ranks, serving as an assistant coach for Chris Christiansen for seven years before being promoted to Associate Head Coach following the 2015-2016 campaign. 

Pena has been an integral piece of the program's history. After playing a pivotal role leading the team to three regional crowns as a player, he became even more of a staple of the program as an assistant coach, as his versatility saw him recruit countless student-athletes to the program while also maximizing their potential by putting them in the best position to succeed strategically on the court. His upside is glaring, and after leading Berkeley to Regional and National crowns in 2017-2018, sky is the limit for the young Head Coach.
