New Jersey Men's Soccer drops close game to Briarcliffe College, 1-0 at Triangle Park

The Berkeley College (NJ) men's soccer team dropped another close game on Tuesday afternoon, falling to Bulldogs of Briarcliffe College by a score of 1-0 at Triangle Park in Hicksville, NY. The game served as the season opener for Briarcliffe, which started off its 2014 campaign on a winning note. Meanwhile - the Knights - who captured a 9-1 victory over Bryn Athyn this past Sunday afternoon - fell to 1-4 with this defeat.

After the teams battled for 21 scoreless minutes, the Bulldogs' Edison Guayllasca broke the scoreless tie in the 22nd minute when he scored an unassisted goal, blasting a ball past Berkeley College netminder Christian Vidreiro to give his team a 1-0 lead. That tally would be all Briarcliffe would need, as the Bulldogs used excellent goaltending and stifling defense to win the game.

Briarcliffe's Yessid Nijim was a brick wall in net, as he stopped all 10 of Berkeley's shots on the afternoon in picking up the win for his squad. His counterpart - the Knights' Christian Vidreiro - was also solid in net, as he allowed just the one goal while making five saves.

The Bulldogs out-shot Berkeley by a count of 11-10 on the afternoon. Briarcliffe had three corner kicks to the Knights' two, and both teams were whistled for seven fouls apiece.

The Knights will look to get back on the winning track on Saturday afternoon, as Berkeley College takes to the road to battle the University at Maine-Fort Kent. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 1:00pm.
