New Jersey soccer team records dramatic 1-0 victory thanks to Ribhe Huzien's heroics in 79th minute

Berkeley College's New Jersey men's soccer team has played two games at its primary home field of NJIT this season, and both games have resulted in 1-0 outcomes. Back on Wednesday, September 3, the Knights came out on the wrong end of a 1-0 overtime loss at the hands of Lancaster Bible. Today - however - Berkeley flipped the script, recording a 1-0 triumph over Sussex County Community College thanks to a dramatic goal late in the second half. With the win, the Knights have now won two games in a row, and sit at 5-6 on the 2014 campaign.

Both teams battled back and forth in the first half, with Berkeley College creating may quality scoring changes. Neither team was able to notch a goal though, and at halftime, the game was scoreless. In the second session, neither squad was able to erase their respective zeroes from the score column until the 79th minute when the Knights' Ribhe Huzien collected a pass from Bryan Costa and blasted a ball into the net to give his team a 1-0 lead. That goal would be the only tally Berkeley would need as the Knights held on for a spirited one-goal victory.

In addition to Huzien's tally, the Knights defense was stellar, allowing Sussex to record just seven shots on the day. Berkeley's defensive prowess made it an easy day at the office for goalkeeper Christian Vidreiro, who only had to make three stops in picking up his second shutout of the 2014 campaign.

This was the sixth game this season that Berkeley College played that resulted in a 1-0 final score. The win was gratifying for the Knights, as they had previously been 1-4 in those contests. Knights Head Coach Bruno Ferreira was happy with his team's effort, and wants his team to take it one game at a time moving forward.

"I think our guys gave a good effort today, creating scoring chances and playing well on the defensive side as well," he said. "We have seven games remaining on our schedule, and we're treating each and every one of them as a playoff game. Right now, we have a sense of urgency and despite the fact that we want to win all of our remaining games, we are staying focused and taking things one game at a time. We're looking forward to Valley Forge tomorrow afternoon."

The Knights controlled the offensive tempo for a majority of the contest, out-shooting Sussex by a count of 25-7 and not allowing their opponents to create any quality scoring opportunities.

Berkeley will return to action tomorrow afternoon, as the team takes to the road tobattle Valley Forge Christian College. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 3:30pm.
