New Jersey men's soccer team finds the net nine times in shutout victory over Valley Forge Christian College

It was another day, another shutout for the Berkeley College New Jersey men's soccer team, as the Knights won for the second time in as many days, thrashing the Patriots of Valley Forge Christian College by a score of 9-0 in Phoenixville, PA. Unlike yesterday's 1-0 nail-biting victory over Sussex, Berkeley cruised in this one, netting four goals in the opening session and tallying five more in the second half to run away with the game. With the triumph, the Knights have now won three in a row and sit at 6-6 on the 2014 campaign, while the Patriots dipped to 3-11.

Berkeley opened up the scoring just 1:40 into the contest when Juan Faciolince collected a cross from Bryan Costa and buried the ball into the upper-right corner of the net to give the Knights a quick edge. 5:20 later, Ribhe Huzien - Thursday's hero - scored an unassisted goal to increase Berkeley College's lead to 2-0. Alex Flores (at 18:50) and Ali Yildirim (at 32:59 - from Jacob Tafur) also netted goals in the opening period, and the Knights held a comfortable 4-0 lead at the half.

In the second session, the Knights continued to light up the scoreboard. Huzien scored his second goal of the game at 48:27, and that tally was followed up 11:54 later (at 60:21) by a goal from Flores. At that stage, Berkeley College led the game by a score of 6-0. Faciolince, Carlos Gutierrez, and Bryan Calixto accounted for the final three goals for the Knights.

Knights netminder Jonathan Pena-Ortiz didn't have to do much to record the shutout for Berkeley, as he made two stops on the afternoon. The Knights defense did a phenomenal job, holding the Patriots to just four shots - all in the second half. Berkeley's offense registered 38 shots, and the Knights had five corner kicks on the day, as well. Following the game, Head Coach Bruno Ferriera gave his thoughts on the win.

"We've won three consecutive games now, and I feel as though our confidence is continuing to build with the recent success that we've had," Ferreira said. "It's all about working together as a team and continuing to get better. We're all excited for our next game."

The Knights will have four days off before returning to action on Wednesday, as Berkeley takes to the road to battle Penn State Brandywine. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 4:00pm.
