Berkeley College New Jersey men's soccer team stays hot, silencing Cardinals 6-2 at Aviator Field Tuesday evening

The Berkeley College New Jersey men's soccer team won its fifth consecutive game on Tuesday evening, defeating York College by a score of 6-2 in a game played at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, NY. With the victory, the Knights are now 8-6 on the 2014 campaign, while the Cardinals dipped to 4-11 on the year.

Berkeley wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the opening session, as Juan Faciolince collected a loose ball in front of the net and blasted a ball past York College netminder Mohamed Elbarbary to give his team a 1-0 advantage (at 0:32). Later - at 11:39 of the first half - Faciolince would strike again - receiving a pass from Kevin Ortiz and slipping a ball home to increase the Knights' edge to 2-0.

York College refused to go quietly, as the Cardinals got back into the game at the 17:46 mark of the stanza when Diron Duah would convert on a free kick from 25 yards out to pull York to within a goal at 2-1. The Knights got that goal back fairly quickly, though, as Kevin Ortiz notched a goal at 19:34 (from Pedro Dos Santos) to put Berkeley back up 3-1.

The Knights - who scored 21 goals in their five-game winning streak prior to this contest - continued their offensive show - and Pedro Dos Santos scored his team's fourth goal of the evening at 30:28 (unassisted) to increase the Knights' lead to three goals at 4-1. As time expired in the first half, Berkeley maintained that three-goal advantage.

York College tried clawing back into the game in the second half when at 58:13, Jordan Chin would notch an unassisted goal to bring the Cardinals to within two goals. Berkeley College put the game away for good later, though, as Bryan Costa (from Kevin Ortiz at 73:49) and Faciolince (from Costa at 79:51) would tally the final two goals on the evening, accounting for the 6-2 final score in favor of the Knights.

York College had 27 shots on the evening compared to 16 for the Knights, but Berkeley was able to find the net on nearly half of its shot attempts (6-of-16), while the Cardinals settled for just a pair of goals. The Cardinals had eight corner kicks compared to three for the Knights, and Berkeley was whistled for 21 fouls compared to 10 for York.

The Knights will return to action Thursday evening as Berkeley will take on Central Penn at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, NY. Start-time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
