New Jersey men's soccer team extends winning streak to six games with convincing victory over Central Penn

The Berkeley College New Jersey men's soccer team won its sixth consecutive game Thursday evening, defeating Central Penn by a score of 10-0 at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, NY. With the victory, Berkeley improved to a record of 9-6 on the 2014 campaign, while Central Penn dipped to 0-6.

In the opening session, Berkeley College got on the board at the 5:10 mark when Kevin Ortiz collected a ball from about 20 yards from the net and roundhouse-kicked the ball into the net to give his team an early 1-0 advantage. Juan Faciolince and Francesco Torino picked up assists on the play. 1:52 later, Ortiz struck again, notching a score on a header on a pass from Faciolince to put Berkeley up 2-0. The Knights increased their lead to three goals when Ortiz would strike yet again, slipping a ball past Central Penn netminder Jesse Berger at 10:07 to increase his team's advantage to 3-0.

Berkeley College continued to dominate offensively, tacking on two more goals in the first half - one by Ribhe Huzien at 18:25, and another by Ali Yildirim (from Keun Blessing) at 40:50. At the half, Berkeley held a commanding 5-0 edge.

In the second half, Berkeley College continued to dominate the contest, as five different players would score in the session to account for the 10-0 final score. Kevin Ortiz added his fourth goal of the game after receiving a beautiful cross pass from Bryan Costa. That made it 6-0 in favor of Berkeley College at the 48:43 mark. Marcelo Pizarro (from Alex Flories at 65:01), Yildirim (from Huzien at 67:43), Huzien (from Pizarro at 68:10), and Anthony Feola (from Huzien at 89:30) would notch the final four goals as Berkeley slammed the door on a blowout victory.

Berkeley College out-shot Central Penn by a count of 24-2 on the evening, while taking eight corner kicks compared to zero for Central Penn. Berkeley committed eight fouls on the evening, while Central Penn was whistled for four.

The Knights will return to action on Saturday, October 18, as Berkeley will battle Briarcliffe at NJIT. Start-time is scheduled for 3:00pm, and seniors Nuno Santos, Raymond Scalfani, and Steven Ortiz will be honored prior to the game.
