Berkeley College New York men's soccer and women's soccer set sights on 2016 as schedules are announced

The Berkeley College Department of Athletics' New York soccer programs announced their 2016 season schedules on Thursday morning, and anticipation is building towards the start of those aforementioned campaigns.

For the Knights' New York men's soccer program, Stavros Zomopoulos will return for his eighth season as the team's Head Coach with aspirations of leading his program to yet another successful season. In 2015, Zomopoulos led the Knights to Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Regular Season and Postseason championships – marking the first time the team had ever won both of those titles in the same season. Berkeley College also qualified for the USCAA via an automatic bid for winning its conference tournament, as the Knights defeated Concordia College-Alabama in the quarterfinals before pushing No. 1 seeded Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse to its limit in the semifinals.

The 2016 campaign will begin with a match against Fisher College on Saturday, September 3. Four days later – the Knights will play their HVIAC opener – as well as their home opener – against Webb Institute at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, NY (Wednesday, September 7). Berkeley will then play six of its final seven September contests away from home, with the Knights taking to the road to face Summit University (September 10), Marywood University (September 13), and HVIAC-foe Davis (September 17). Following a home contest against conference opponent Vaughn College on September 21, Berkeley closes out the month with road matches against SUNY Delhi and SUNY Maritime on September 24 and September 26 respectively, before facing The King's College on Wednesday, September 28.

The New York men's soccer team will kick off October by hosting Culinary Institute of America on Saturday, October 1. Two days later – on Monday, October 3, Berkeley will go toe-to-toe with the College of New Rochelle in the Blue Angels' first season as a team (New Rochelle will serve as a club team for the 2016 season). After four days off from October 4 through October 7, the Knights will play back-to-back road contests against SUNY-ESF (September 8) and SUNY Canton (September 9) before facing defending USCAA champion Maine Fort Kent at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, NY on Senior Night on October 13. On Saturday, October 15, the Knights will travel to Albany, NY to battle the Panthers in a rematch of the 2015 HVIAC title game, before facing Valley Forge University at home on October 19.

On the weekend of October 22 and October 23, the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament will take place, and the Knights will be looking to win their second consecutive conference crown and fourth in program history. On October 26, the Knights will visit Hoboken, NJ for a match at Stevens Institute of Technology, and the 2016 USCAA National Men's Soccer Tournament – which the Knights will be shooting to compete in – begins November 10 and runs through November 14.

Berkeley College's women's soccer team will be paced by John Guagliardo, who will serve as the team's Head Coach after spending the 2015 campaign as the program's Associate Head Coach. He will guide the Knights through a competitive nine-game schedule, as well as the prospective two contests in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament.

The Knights begin their regular season with back-to-back non-conference home matches, with Berkeley facing Central Penn at Aviator Field on Wednesday, September 21, before taking on Valley Forge University at the same venue on Monday, September 26. The Knights will then play their first HVIAC match of the season on September 28 at The King's College before opening up October with a home match against Pratt Institute.

Berkeley College will then have six days off from October 2 through October 7 before battling SUNY-ESF and Penn State Hazleton on October 8 and October 9 respectively. On Thursday, October 13, the Knights will return home to take on Vermont Tech at Aviator Field on Senior Night. Two days later – Berkeley will travel to Albany College of Pharmacy to take on the Panthers in a rematch of the semifinal round of the 2015 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament.

On the weekend of October 22 and October 23, the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament will take place, and then Berkeley will face Yeshiva University on Wednesday, November 2. The 2016 USCAA National Men's Soccer Tournament begins November 10 and runs through November 14.
