New Jersey men's soccer team records phenomenal 1-0 overtime victory on Senior Day; Wender Lima's 93rd minute goal serves as the difference

The Berkeley College New Jersey men's soccer team defeated the Crusaders of Christendom on Saturday afternoon, winning the match by a score of 1-0 in overtime The contest took place at the College of Staten Island in Staten Island, NY. With the win, the Knights improved to a mark of 8-9 on the 2018 campaign, including a record of 8-2 in the month of October.

Prior to the match, the Berkeley College Department of Athletics honored four graduating seniors in a heartfelt ceremony. The seniors were recognized include Robert Parker, Mathew Agudelo, Kevin Soares, and Wender Lima. Each graduating senior was presented with a commemorative plaque honoring their years of service to the New Jersey men's soccer program.

Neither team was able to break through for the game's first goal during the first 90 minutes of action, as the game headed to overtime. Just 2:19 into the extra session, Christopher Azevedo lifted a pass to Lima who on a header was able to tuck the ball inside the crossbar to give the Knights an incredible 1-0 victory.

Berkeley's defense was incredible all day long, as the Knights allowed just nine shots by Christendom, including only two on-goal, which were both saved by Robert Parker.

The Knights out-shot the Crusaders by a final count of 34-9. Berkeley sprinkled 12 shots on-goal, with the first 11 being stopped by Christendom goalkeeper Carlos Gasque, who was excellent on the afternoon.

The Berkeley College New Jersey men's soccer team will return to action on Tuesday afternoon, as the Knights will take to the road to battle Penn State Brandywine. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 3:00pm.
