The Berkeley College New Jersey men's soccer team played a pair games over the past 48 hours, dominating the Crusaders of Christendom by a score of 6-0 in Front Royal, Virginia on Friday, before playing to a 3-3 tie with the Bison of Gallaudet at Hotchkiss Field in Washington, DC. With the 1-0-1 output, the Knights are now 3-0-1 on the 2019 campaign.
Five different Knights scored for Berkeley in its victory over the Crusaders, including Robins Etienne, as he netted a pair of goals in the opening 45 minutes of action. Chayse Rand and Wolfgang Whalen picked up assists on those goals. Carlos Goncalves (from Esteban Pedrueza), Dylan Jurado (from Tiago Afonso), Damaniek Brevett (unassisted), and Afonso (from Christopher Azevedo) accounted for the other four Berkeley goals.
Berkeley out-shot Christendom 25-6 for the game. Senior goalkeeper Robert Parker recorded a shutout for the Knights, making four stops in the process.
In the Knights' 3-3 tie against Bison, clutch/timely goals led Berkeley back from two different two-goal deficits. Trailing 2-0 in the final seconds of the opening session, Erick Carbantes received a beautiful lead pass from Dylan Jurado before burying the ball into the net to slice Berkeley' deficit to 2-1.
Gallaudet scored a goal in the 61st minute (60:15) to re-take a two goal advantage, and the Bison appeared to be in good position to deal the Knights their first loss of the 2019 campaign, but Berkeley showed incredible grit in battling back. Anderson Amador netted a goal at 84:42 (assisted by Marcos Hidalgo) to cut the Bison's edge to 3-2, and Chayse Rand scored the equalizer with 1:41 to go (also assisted by Hidalgo). The match then moved into overtime.
Berkeley dominated the overtime sessions, out-shooting Gallaudet 9-1 over a span of 20 extra minutes. Neither team was able to record a golden goal, and the game ended in a tie.
For the contest, the Knights registered 30 shots while holding the Bison to 11. Berkeley also exemplified more discipline, committing just nine fouls compared to 19 for the opposition.
The Knights will now enjoy six days off before attempting to keep their undefeated streak alive when they take on Delaware Valley at Robert A. Lipinski Field in Doylestown, PA. Start-time is scheduled for 5:00pm.
