In what Head Coach Stavros Zomopoulos called the best regular season victory in the history of the New York men's soccer program, the Berkeley College Knights defeated the Brewers of Vassar College by a score of 3-2 at Gordon Field in Poughkeepsie, NY. With the victory, Berkeley is now unbeaten in five consecutive matches, improving to a mark of 5-3-1 (1-0 HVIAC). Vassar dipped to 4-4-1 with the defeat.

The Knights lit up the scoreboard first in this one, when, at 40:55, standout Amadou Sy found the ball close to the Brewers net before tipping the ball past a diving Luke Lefeber and into the net to give Berkeley College a 1-0 lead. That would be the score as time expired on the opening half.

Later, in the 67^th minute, the Knights increased their advantage to 2-0 when Tcharly Verna fired a ball home. Vassar nearly got one of those goals back at 70:12 when Henrik Olsson's shot was saved by ace goalkeeper Dario Cruz-Sepulveda. The Brewers finally did slice the Knights lead in half with 4:56 remaining in the game, as Andrew Goldsmith's deflected header came to the foot of Kyle Lopes who blasted the ball home. That made it 2-1 in favor of Berkeley.

The Knights got that goal back two minutes later, as Sy took advantage of an open net opportunity before burying the ball home to catapult Berkeley to a commanding 3-1 advantage with just 2:03 remaining.

Vassar didn't quit, as Ryan Lane scored off a corner kick (from Reis Kissel) with 45 seconds remaining on the clock. The Brewers had one final opportunity to net the equalizer in the final moments, but Cruz-Sepulveda turned away one final Vassar shot to preserve the victory for Berkeley.

Cruz-Sepulveda starred for the Knights, stopping 10 shots on the day while earning the victory in net.

The Knights won the game despite being out-shot by 20. Vassar registered 28 shots on the afternoon compared to just eight for Berkeley. The Brewers earned 12 corner kick opportunities compared to two for the Knights. Berkeley was whistled for 15 fouls on the afternoon, compared to 14 for Vassar.

Berkeley will resume its HVIAC portion of the schedule on Saturday afternoon, as the Knights will travel to Tully, NY to take on SUNY-ESF. The match will be played at Tully Research Field Station, with a start-time of 1:00pm.
