2019 Berkeley College (New York) men's soccer team commemorates USCAA National title with ring ceremony and dinner

On Thursday afternoon, March 5, the Berkeley College Department of Athletics honored the 2019 New York men's soccer team with a ring ceremony and dinner on the New York City campus to commemorate the team's USCAA Division II Men's Soccer National championship this past November.

The historic season saw the Knights win the school's first-ever USCAA Division II National title, defeating Southern Maine Community College, Penn State Brandywine, and Johnson & Wales University-Charlotte in doing so. Berkeley also captured the HVIAC crown for the fourth time, and boasted a USCAA Division II Player of the Year, three USCAA First-Team All Americans, one USCAA Second Team All-American, three USCAA Academic All-Americans, an HVIAC Player of the Year, and four HVIAC All-Conference selections.

Guests of yesterday's event were greeted with an impressive spread of meal options and refreshments, and championship rings were presented to President Michael Smith, Senior Vice President of Student Success, Diane Recinos, 11-year Head Coach Stavros Zomopoulos, Associate Head Coach Jorge Martinez, Assistant Coach Ali Dawha, and all-student-athletes. Prior to the distribution of the hardware, Direcor of Athletics Andy DeStephano, Assistant Director of Athletics Stephen Spagnoli, President Smith, and Zomopoulos praised the student-athletes for the incredible heart, determination, and sacrifice they exemplified in 2019.

Berkeley College will now turn its focus on making it two consecutive USCAA Division II National crowns, and two straight HVIAC titles, as the squad will begin its 2020 season in early September.
