Balanced all-around effort leads Knights to dominant victory over Blue Jays

The Berkeley College men's soccer team stayed unblemished for the 2023 campaign on Wednesday afternoon, as the Knights dominated the Blue Jays of Manor College by a score of 5-0. The match took place at Frank D. Zaccaria Field in Woodland Park, NJ. With the victory, Berkeley is now 5-0 on the season, while Manor College slipped to 0-3 on the year.

Berkeley got the scoring started early in this one, as Hector Castro took advantage of Ian Pallardel's beautiful lead pass before slashing one into the net, past Blue Jay goalkeeper Aiden Tiblier. The Knights added another goal just before halftime, with Esteban Pedrueza finding paydirt in the 40th minute (from Lucas Zuleta) to make it 2-0 Knights. That would be the score as time expired on the first half.

In the second session, the Knights used a stellar defensive effort, while also peppering in three more goals, to claim an emphatic victory. Alan Martinez netted a goal in the 64th minute (from Suad Lukovic). Then, after Manor College put a new goaltender into the game (Raphael Sobiac), the Knights would get goals from Agustin Nunez in the 79th minute (from Castro) and Pedrueza again in the 86th (from Nathan Tejada).

Berkeley standout netmider Victor Batista logged 79 minutes in net, stopping five shots while not allowing a goal. Dennis Belch played 11 minutes in relief, making one save while not yielding a goal.

The Knights held a 12-7 edge in the shots category, while also earning nine corner kick opportunities compared to four for the visitors.

Berkeley will return to action on Sunday afternoon, as the Knights will take on the University of Maine at Augusta on the road. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 12:00pm.
