The Berkeley College men's soccer team continued to roll during this 2023 campaign, yesterday defeating the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton College (Albany) by a score of 4-1. The match took place at Frank D. Zaccaria Memorial Park in Woodland Park, NJ. The Knights improved to 10-1 on the year with the victory, while the Bobcats dipped to 0-7-1.
Berkeley's Maximus Betancourt got the scoring started for the hosts, as he scored his second goal in as many matches, taking advantage of a solid pass from Joseph Buel before burying the ball into the net (12:00). 26 minutes later, Eddie Becirovic's unassisted goal pushed the Knights' edge to 2-0.
Just before the half, Bryant & Stratton (Albany) got on the scoreboard when Junior Depina cashed in on a penalty kick opportunity, slicing the ball into the left side of the goal to make it 2-1 Berkeley. That would be the final goal scored of the half.
In the second session, the Knights used a goal by veteran Esteban Pedrueza (62:00, from Marc Wolter) to make it 3-1 Berkeley. The Knights then put the match out of reach 16 minutes later, as Marco DaSilva notched a tally (78:00, from Samuel Gomez) to put the hosts up 4-1, a lead they would not relinquish.
Freshman netminder Victor Batista picked up another victory in net following his stellar weekend in which he shut out two USCAA Division I institutions. Batista allowed just one goal while stopping four shots. His counterpart, Jose Diaz, took the loss in net, allowing four goals while making 10 saves.
The Knights held a healthy 23-8 edge in shots in the victory.
Berkeley will return to the pitch on Saturday afternoon, as the Knights host HVIAC foe SUNY-ESF. The match will take place at Frank D. Zaccaria Park, with a start-time of 1:00pm.
