Knights stay unbeaten in September with impressive victories over Bobcats, Mustangs

The Berkeley College men's soccer team continued to roll this weekend, keeping its September unbeaten streak alive with a pair of impressive victories, blowing out Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse by a score of 6-1 on Saturday evening, before turning around and edging Central Maine Community College on Sunday afternoon. With the pair of victories, the Knights improved to a mark of 5-1-1.

In the Knights' 6-1 triumph over the Bobcats, five different Knights found the back of the net, including a pair by Gabriel Borges (from Samuel Gomez and Fabrizio Sousa), and apiece one from Jason DeJesus (from Steven Urbes), Suad Lukovic (from Marco DaSilva), Gomez, and Tomas Romano (from Tajee Argentine).

Berkeley registered a grand total of 25 shots in the victory. Victor Batista played 70 minutes in goal and earned the victory, as he didn't allow a goal and made one save. Dominik Usau played the final 20 minutes between the pipes, yielding one tally and making one save.

In the Knights' victory over the Mustangs, neither team was able to break through for a tally in the opening 45 minutes of action. Urbes scored the first goal of the game (from Fernando Morales) at 48:12. Central Maine tied the match late when Ivan Domingues scored an unassisted goal at 88:17. Berkeley won the match in dramatic fashion 1:32 later, as DeJesus would score the match-winner (from Batista) with 11 ticks left.

Berkeley held a 19-10 edge in shots, and the teams were even with four corner kicks apiece. A total of 35 fouls were called – 18 on the hosts, and 17 on the Knights. Batista allowed one goal and made five saves in getting the victory in goal for Berkeley, while his counterpart – the Mustangs' Cody Cleaveland – allowed two goals and made eight stops in taking the loss.

The Knights will look to make it three consecutive victories on Wednesday afternoon, as Berkeley travels to Mont Alto, PA to clash with Penn State Mont Alto. Start-time is scheduled for 4:00pm.
