The Berkeley College men's soccer team saw its 2024 campaign come to an end this past Saturday, as the Knights fell to the Sound of Five Towns College by a score of 2-1 in the semifinal round of the NACIA Tournament. With the defeat, the Knights wrapped up their season with a mark of 12-4-3.
Five Towns advanced to the championship of the tourney the following day and lose to Bryant & Stratton-Rochester, 3-0.
The Sound got on the board early, scoring in the opening five minutes of the semifinal round clash when Sebastian Cuenca found the back of the net, slashing in Anthony Campos' lead pass to make it 1-0. 25 minutes later, Joseph Buel (from Kareem Davis) knotted the match up at once apiece, striking a ball that found the top left corner of the net, making it 1-1. Those two aforementioned goals would be the only tallies of the opening 45 minutes.
Five Towns College netted the game-winner at 84:00, as Christian Alvarez slotted home Jose Fuentes' pass to give the Sound a 2-1 edge, a lead Five Towns College would not relinquish.
Earning the victory in goal for the Sound was Jose Garcia, as he allowed just one goal while making eight saves. His counterpart, Berkeley's Jack Giannini, played well in taking the loss, yielding two goals but making eight saves along the way.
