Maria Negon (Game-high 25 points, 21 rebounds) paces Knights over Bobcats, 73-64

The Berkeley College women's basketball team picked up a hard-fought victory on Tuesday evening, defeating the Bobcats of Paul Smith's College by a score of 73-64. The contest took place in Paul Smith's, NY. With the victory, the Knights improved to a mark of 11-9 on the 2024-2025 campaign, while the Bobcats dipped to a record of 11-9.

In the victory for Berkeley, Maria Negron put forth a tremendous effort, posting a double-double with game-highs of 25 points, 21 rebounds, and three blocked shots. Magan Jackson was excellent for the Knights, scoring 19 points, snatching nine rebounds, and registering game-highs of nine steals and eight assists, and finally, Ariella Johnson added 11 points and four assists for the victors.

Despite the loss for Paul Smith's College, the Bobcats were paced by DaVyne Johnson, as she scored a team-best 22 points (7-8 FT) to go along with three rebounds and a pair of assists. Holly Bagley finished with 14 points, five rebounds, and three steals, and Finnley Jacobson and Jillian York scored nine points apiece, with Jacobsen's 11 rebounds serving as a team-best.

In what was a competitive game throughout, Berkeley held a slim 33-32 edge at the half, and a marginal 51-50 advantage after 30 minutes of action. The Knights pulled away in the fourth quarter, though, outscoring the hosts 22-14 to account for the nine-point victory. In Berkeley's last four games that were decided by nine points or less, the Knights are 3-1.

Both squads struggled shooting the basketball on the evening, with the Knights earning a conversion rate of 35.9 percent (33-92), and the Bobcats connecting on just 23 of their 76 shots (30.3 percent). Berkeley absolutely dominated on the glass, collecting 61 rebounds compared to 39 for Paul Smith's, and the Knights also held advantages in assists (17-13), steals (15-14), and blocked shots (6-3). Both squads committed 23 miscues on the evening.

Berkeley College will look to continue its winning ways on Saturday evening, as the Knights will travel to Cleveland, Ohio to battle Bryant & Stratton-Ohio in an NACIA contest. The game will take place at the Sister Diana Stano Athletic Center on the campus of Ursuline College, with a start-time of 6:00pm.
