Women's tennis drops Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Contest to Vaughn College, 6-3

The Berkeley College women's tennis team dropped a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Thursday evening, falling to the Warriors of Vaughn College by a score of 6-3 in a contest played at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY. With the loss, the Knights dropped to 0-2 on the year, while the Warriors improved their mark to 1-4.

Vaughn College set the tone for the evening by capturing two of the three doubles flights. At No. 1 doubles, it was the Warriors' combination of Emily German and Maia Rivers defeating the Knights' duo of Kate Zharkova and Jennifer Giroux by a score of 8-1. The Knights won at N. 2 when Marisol Munoz and Stephanie Tse defeated Vaughn's Grace Davis and Christina DeLuca 8-3. The Warriors won the No. 3 flight by default.

When play switched over to singles, Vaughn picked up victories in four of the six flights. At No. 2 singles, it was Rivers silencing Giroux 10-1, and No. 4 singles featured Davis outlasting Tse 10-3. The Knights did pick up singles victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 flights, as Zharkova defeated German 10-2 at No. 1, and Munoz turned back Omomhene Eimunjeze 10-1 at No. 3. Vaughn College won the No. 5 and No. 6 flights by default.

The Knights will return to action on Thursday, October 20, as Berkeley College will take to the road to battle Pratt Institute in another Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest. Start-time for that match is scheduled for 8:00pm.
