Women's tennis team silenced by Farmingdale State 9-0 in season opener Saturday afternoon

The Berkeley College women's tennis team began their 2017 campaign on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Rams of Farmingdale State by a score of 9-0.

The Rams took control of the match by dominating doubles competition, as Farmingdale State captured all three doubles flights. At No. 1 doubles, it was the Rams' combination of Olivia Stauffer and Kayla Reidy defeating the Knights' duo of Esly Rodriguez and Fanny Harling by a score of 8-1. No. 2 doubles featured Farmingdale State's Carolann La Monica and Celine Zollinger turning back Berkeley's pair of Aileen Garcia and Veruzka Scavo, 8-0. The Rams won the No. 3 doubles flight by default.

When play switched over to singles, Farmingdale State was victorious in all six flights to account for the 9-0 final score. At No. 1 singles, it was Reidy silencing Harling, 6-0, 6-1, and the Rams' Julia Marino beat Rodriguez, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Cameren Jackson downed Scavo, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, and it was Farmingdale State's Jazmin Garcida turning back Garcia 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4. The Rams won the No's five and six flights by default.

Berkeley College will look to bounce back and solidify victory number one on the season tomorrow evening, as the Knights play their home opener against Mount Saint Mary's College. The match will be played at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, and start-time is scheduled for 5:30pm.
