Women's tennis team drops home-opening match to Mount Saint Mary College (NY), 9-0

The Berkeley College women's tennis team dropped its home opener on Sunday evening, falling to Mount Saint Mary College (NY) at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center by a score of 9-0. With the loss, Berkeley dipped to 0-2 on the season, while Mount Saint Mary College improved to 2-3.

Mount Saint Mary College raced out to an early 3-0 advantage following doubles action. At No. 1 flight doubles, it was Victoria Clay and Michelle Carnovale defeating Fanny Harling and Paulina Pettersson by a score of 8-2. No. 2 flight doubles saw Charlotte Pascual and Dorothy Tighe turn back Aileen Garci and Veruzka Scavo 8-0, and Mount Saint Mary College won the No. 3 doubles flight by default.

When play switched over to singles, Mount Saint Mary College won all six flights to slam the door on the match. In a very competitive No. 1 flight singles clash, it was Carnovale outlasting Harling, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5. Pascual beat Pettersson 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 2 flight, and Clay dominated Scavo 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3. No. 4 singles saw Tighe silence Esly Rodriguez 6-0, 6-0, and it was Miyanna Vernon claiming victory over Garcia at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Mount Saint Mary College won the No. 6 singles flight by default.

Berkeley College will return to action on Sunday, October 1, as the Knights will face Misericordia at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Start-time for the match is scheduled for 2:00pm.
