Women's tennis team drops home opener to Misericordia University on Sunday afternoon

The Berkeley College women's tennis team dropped its home-opener on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Cougars of Misericordia University by a score of 9-0. The match was played at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, NY. With the loss, Berkeley fell to 0-2 on the 2018 season, while the Cougars improved to 1-2 on the year.

Misericordia grabbed a 3-0 advantage following doubles play. At the No. 1 doubles flight, the Cougars' combination of Hannah Gildea and Emily Mernin defeated the Knights' pair of Joyce Lewis and Hershebed Dorcil by a score of 8-2. It was the Cougars' Nicole Pangiochi and Kristina Horan turning back Berkeley's Zahra Sajid and Hequo Tchendie 8-4 in a very competitive No. 2 doubles flight. Misericordia won the No. 3 flight by default.

When play switched over to singles, the Cougars captured all six flights to account for the 9-0 final score. No. 1 featured Rambish silencing Lewis by a score of 10-0. It was Misericordia's Nicole Joers defeating Docil 10-2 at No. 2. No. 3 featured Gildea downing Sajid, 10-0, and it was Nicole Pangiochi beating Tchendi, 10-0 at No. 4. The Cougars won the No's 5 and 6 singles flights by default.

The Knights will return to action Thursday, as they'll travel to Newburgh, NY to take on Mount Saint Mary College. Start-time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
