Women's tennis team suffers 9-0 defeat to Webb Institute in season opener on Sunday afternoon in Glen Cove, NY

The Berkeley College women's tennis team opened up its 2019 season on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Webbies of Webb Institute by a score of 9-0. The match was played in Glen Cove, NY.

Webb jumped out to a commanding 3-0 advantage following doubles action. The Webbies duo of Linda Waters and Renee Tremblay turned back Berkeley's combination of Ingeborg Ruud and Hezou Tchendie by a score of 8-0 at No. 1. In a very competitive No. 2 flight, it was Webb Institute's pairing of Erin Postma and Tori Kim outlasted the Knights duo of Josolin Fults and Joyce Lewis, 8-5. The Webbies won the No. 3 doubles flight by default.

When play switched over to singles, Webb Institute captured all six flights to account for the 9-0 final score. Waters (No. 1) defeated Ruud by a score of 10-1. Isa Hill (No. 2), Maggie Maguire (No.3), and Tremblay (No. 4) all recorded 10-0 victories for the Webbies against Tchendie (No. 2), Lewis (No. 3), and Fults (No. 4), respectively. Webb Institute won the No's 5 and 6 flights by default.

Berkeley College will return to action next Sunday, October 6, as the Knights will travel to New Haven, Connecticut to face Albertus Magnus on the Celentano Courts. Start-time is scheduled for 2:00pm.
