Berkeley registers home wins over Bobcats and Wolves, extending winning streak to five

The Berkeley College men's basketball team recently picked up a pair of home victories, defeating Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse by a score of 84-78 (1/25), before turning around two days later and defeating Cheyney by a score of 91-81. With the pair of victories, the Knights extended their winning streak to five games, and improved their record on the 2024-2025 campaign to 10-8.

In the Knights' victory over the Bobcats, Ike Sheppard put forth another stellar performance, scoring 24 points (9-15 FG, 4-5 FT) while snatching nine rebounds, dishing three assists, and swatting a pair of shots. Jesse Taylor added 19 points and seven rebounds, and Justyce Coleman connected on eight of his 10 attempts from the floor to finalize his evening with 16 points, nine rebounds, three blocks, and a pair of assists.

Berkeley College held a 48-37 advantage at halftime, and held off a late Bobcats surge, as the visitors outscored the hosts by a count of 41-36 in the game's final 20 minutes. The Knights were able to hold off Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse to keep their winning streak alive.

For the evening, Berkeley College connected on 38.3 percent of its attempts from the floor (31-81), while also draining 16 of its 23 shots from the free throw line, a conversion rate of 69.6. The Knights collected 45 rebounds, dished 19 assists, swiped nine steals, and committed just 11 turnovers.

In Berkeley's triumph over Cheyney this past Monday, Sheppard finished with 18 points and nine rebounds on the evening, while DeMarco Watson and Taylor finished with 14 points apiece. Julio Wallace added 12 points, two rebounds, and two steals.

Despite the loss for the Wolves, Joshua Blackson finished with a game-high 20 points to go along with five rebounds and three steals. Nathan Pettus Jr. added 19 points, a game-high six steals, and two rebounds, and Lavion Morales finished with 12 points and six boards. D'Angelo Lake's 15 rebounds led all players.

After holding a 45-36 advantage at halftime, the teams' scoring was nearly even in the final 20 minutes, with the Knights outscoring the Wolves 46-45 to account for the 10-point triumph.

The Knights connected on 50.8 percent of his attempts from the floor (31-61), while Cheyney earned a conversion rate of 37.5 (30-80). The Wolves held a slim 44-41 edge on the glass, while also swiping 13 steals to Berkeley's nine. The Knights dished 24 assists on the evening while the visitors had 16. Cheyney won the turnover battle, committing 16 miscues while Berkeley had 20.

The Knights will return to action on Thursday evening, February 6, as Berkeley welcomes Villa Maria to Achievement First Brooklyn High School. Start-time for the NACIA clash is scheduled for 8:00pm.
